Lemon Tree
Paros Airbnb redesign inspired by authentic Cycladic architecture and island character.
Cycladic architecture, characteristic of the Greek islands such as Paros, is distinguished by its simplicity, white cubic forms, narrow pathways, and blue details inspired by the Aegean landscape. This project focuses on an existing but unfinished Airbnb in the picturesque village of Kostos, aiming to complete its interior design while preserving the authentic character of the island. The design draws inspiration from traditional Cycladic elements and materials, including stone, wood, and whitewashed surfaces. A lemon tree located at the entrance becomes a distinctive natural feature, adding freshness and connecting the residence with its surroundings. The overall aim is to create a warm, traditional, and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the timeless beauty of Paros.
Materials and interior elements
The main material will be traditional Parian stone, used on selected wall sections and decorative elements to highlight the authentic character of the island. Wood will also play a dominant role, particularly through the existing wooden ceiling, which will be preserved and contribute warmth and natural texture to the space. Special attention will be given to the kitchen, featuring decorative tiles with traditional patterns in shades of blue, white, and terracotta, adding a nostalgic Cycladic character. Furniture will mainly consist of natural or white wood, complemented by linen and cotton fabrics in soft tones such as ecru, light blue, and sky blue, creating a bright, calm, and welcoming atmosphere.
The design draws directly on Cycladic tradition. Thick lime plaster walls, deep thresholds, and timber slat screens temper the summer sun and the meltemi wind, so that arrival is always through shade before it opens to light. Each suite is numbered and self contained, giving guests privacy while the courtyard keeps the retreat social at its heart.

The Blue of the Aegean
Blue is one of the most iconic colors of Greece, deeply connected to the Aegean Sea and the clear Mediterranean sky. In the Cycladic islands, including Paros, its contrast with the white architecture creates a sense of freshness, calm, and simplicity. More than a decorative color, blue reflects the island’s natural landscape and becomes a symbol of serenity, light, and the timeless character of Greek island life.
Courtyards and Outdoor spaces
Courtyards extend the interiors into the landscape, with pergolas creating shade over stone terraces and greenery surrounding outdoor dining areas. Private plunge pools and natural stone connect each space with its surroundings, allowing indoor and outdoor living to flow together. The design embraces the Mediterranean climate by treating terraces, trees, and open skies as natural extensions of the home.
Private plunge pools and sun-warmed stone extend each suite into the landscape, so that living happens as easily outside as in. It is an architecture written for the Mediterranean climate, one that treats the terrace, the tree, and the open sky as rooms in their own right.
